iPinot is our way of connecting Amalie Robert Estate reserve quality wine directly with savvy internet consumers at the lowest possible price.
iPinot is reserve quality barrels of wine selected for our “Hers and His Reserves” Amalie’s Cuvée and Estate Selection. Once the final “Hers and His Reserve” wines are blended, we have a few reserve level barrels of wine to blend. We blend these barrels of wine together to create iPinot - a reserve level wine without the reserve level price.
Selling iPinot direct, harnessing the power of the internet, is a catchy concept, Amalie Robert has also caught the attention of some influential wine critics.
"...Dallas growers Dena Drews and Ernie Pink... showed me this July three of their reserve bottlings and thereby altered my perception of their endeavors. Since these are produced in only one- or two-barrel quantities, they offer an extreme instance of a phenomenon encountered at numerous Willamette addresses, whose really exciting releases are extremely limited. But they also testify, importantly, to what is possible; and what’s possible from this site in these hands revealed itself to be extraordinary!... And what a Syrah!"

Sun ripened, crushed black raspberries intrigue. A paced and deliberate bouquet of intention opens slowly with a tea leaf to baking spice bramble and tayberry preserve procession. Subtle and specious, not revealing too much too soon, the palate expression builds cumulatively, until suddenly you arrive at the apex – the point of no return. Things are about to get interesting for you with stem tannins and mid-thigh acidity providing the discipline and reward to sustain a long and fulfilling finish. The 3rd half of whole cluster fermented Pinot Noir is upon you. Hand harvested, bottled unfined and unfiltered. This wine benefits from decanting.

Brilliant red. High-pitched red currant, cherry and blood orange scents are complemented by a spicy nuance and a hint of candied rose. Lithe and focused on the palate, offering subtly sweet strawberry and cherry flavors and an earthier suggestion of licorice. A hint of succulent herbs appears on a long, focused finish that features a bitter cherry quality and gently gripping tannins.

Alluring red releases a rich torrent of wild cherry, black raspberry, tilled earth, cinnamon, and cardamom punctuated by a hint of dried tea leaf. Permeating on the palate with a deep richness and persuasive acidity that continues effortlessly while refined stem tannins seal the deal on an endless finish.

Desire red transcends the space and time between the glass and your palate. Evoking the senses to dark cherry, heirloom red rose, black raspberry, cola, tea leaf and hibiscus aromas, the juicy palate expression reveals an elegant and seductive expression of ripe red fruits, cinnamon and resolute, yet refined stem tannins that linger with intent.

Endless red conjures black cherry, baking cocoa, cinnamon, five spice and the heady scent of freshly tilled soil after a spring shower. The expansive mid-palate takes focus as the depth and breadth of energy released from the pure expression of fruit captivates and stimulates. As the tannins and enforcing acidity permeate, it is all at once elegant and sublime; pleasure and desire.

Vivid red. Musky red and dark berries and a hint of candied rose on the pungent nose. Juicy and focused, delivering solid thrust to the bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors. A touch of cola comes up on a long, sappy finish given shape by smooth tannins.

iPinot is composed of reserve quality barrels of wine selected for luxury tier of Pinot Noirs blended to create a reserve level wine without the reserve level price. After Amalie’s Cuvée and the Estate Selection are determined, this wine is made from a few favorite barrels of wine without homes. Whole cluster inclusion and feral yeast fermentation. Moderate reddish purple color in the glass. The nose is very earthy, with aromas of mulch and mushroom, and subservient black cherry fruit in the background. Light to mid weight flavors of cherry and red berry are robed in ripe tannins. The wine has enviable harmony and a cherry-fueled finish that has good intensity.

Coming soon.
Lengthy Red. Initial aromas of cinnamon, lavender, lilac, and tayberry introduce stem spice over sandalwood. Initial flavors are red fruits wrapped in cherry preserve that presents balance and elegance. As the flavors linger, the wine develops breadth and depth culminating in velvety stem tannins and integrated acidity. While interesting now, this wine will reward cellar aging. Unfined and unfiltered.

Light, bright red. High-pitched redcurrant, strawberry and orange zest aromas, along with suggestions of dusty minerals and white pepper. Shows very good clarity and lift to its light-bodied bitter cherry and red berry flavors. Closes with lingering spiciness, a touch of rose pastille and silky, fine-grained tannins that stay hidden in the background.

Vivid ruby-red. Sexy, spice- and floral-accented aromas of raspberry and cherry-cola, with a smoky topnote. Offers sappy red fruit and floral pastille flavors and notes of gingerbread and white pepper. Shows a silken character, with real back-end energy. Weightier on the gently tannic finish, which strongly echoes the raspberry and floral notes.

The Amalie Robert 2009 Pinot Noir iPinot Noir (sic) – of which there is also a Chardonnay counterpart – is so-named because the winery sold (or is selling) its 400 cases exclusively on-line. Juicy fresh cherry seems macerated with rose hip and tinged with cinnamon, black pepper, and smoked meat, as well as nicely integrated vanilla and caramelized resin from one-third new barrels. There is a hint of warmth to an otherwise delightfully sustained finish, and the tannins here are much more mannerly than in the corresponding “Reserve” bottling. Mark this down for enjoyment through at least 2017.
